- Building a community and relationships
- Mentoring and setting goals
What is a peer?
1. What is a licensed peer recovery coach?
Answer: Peer recovery support walks side by side with individuals seeking long term recovery from mental health and substance use disorders. We are non-clinical with shared or lived experience in addiction. We help people create their own recovery plans and discover their own recovery pathways. We create a unique relationship based on trust. Serve as role models, advocate and teach self-advocacy and empowerment. We educate and on community resources and lead people to develop healthy coping skills and be successful in long term recovery.
2. What is the difference between a sponsor and a peer coach?
Answer: A recovery coach is more generalized while a sponsor is more program oriented. A recovery coach meets you where you are at in the readiness to change. A sponsor is responsible for assisting you through a 12 step program while adhering exclusively to the traditions.
